The Frank Simpson Memorial Scholarship was established in 1998 in memory of Frank Simpson, the founding Director of CYO. This annual scholarship will be awarded each year to an orchestra member who has been a member of the orchestra for at least two years, is leaving the orchestra, pursuing musical studies and has participated in all aspects of the orchestra. Applications for the scholarship will be available from the Orchestra Manager, in the spring of each year. Donations to this scholarship fund will be gratefully accepted. A tax receipt will be issued.

Kathleen MacLachlan Scholarship
Kathleen MacLachlan (Kay) was born and raised on a homestead in west central Alberta where she rode her pony for half an hour just to get to her piano lessons. She has derived many hours of enjoyment from listening to her granddaughter’s (Lauren Ridge’s) progress with the violin and through the Mount Royal Conservatory orchestras. It is with pleasure that we honour her and make a small contribution to the tradition of excellence in musicianship in this province.
Any fully paid-up member of the CYO may apply for the Kathleen MacLachlan Scholarship. The awarding of the scholarship takes into consideration some, but not necessarily all, of the following criteria:
| • |
respect for the conductor and fellow musicians
|
| • |
noticeable improvement in musicianship as an orchestra member
|
| • |
family financial need

Kenneth A. Morrison Memorial Scholarship
Kenneth A. Morrison passed away suddenly on October 10, 2005. He was a successful consultant in the oil industry and a very active member of the community. Organizations like Quest Theatre, the Ranchmen’s Club, the Officers’ Mess of Lord Strathcona’s Horse, the Bearspaw Golf and Country Club and the Glencoe Club all benefited from Ken’s involvement. Ken’s passion for music and the arts is memorialized by donations made to the Calgary Youth Orchestra, and the CYO Society Board is pleased to offer this scholarship in his name.
Any member of the brass, percussion and woodwind sections of the CYO may apply for the Kenneth A. Morrison Memorial Scholarship.
